Locking Up a Shipping Container

lock box for container

Closing and locking a shipping container used for storage on your property can help keep your belongings secure. Here are the general steps you can follow to close and lock a shipping container:

  1. Close the doors: Ensure that both doors of the container are fully closed.
  2. Insert the locking bars: Most shipping containers come with locking bars that fit into holes on the container doors. Insert these locking bars into the holes on the left-hand door first and then on the right-hand door.
  3. Padlock the container: Once the locking bars are in place, insert a padlock through the holes in the locking bars. Use a heavy-duty padlock that is difficult to cut or break.

    • Our containers have a ‘lock block’ on them. Below is a video on how to install our locks when a lock block is in place.
  4. Secure additional locks: If you have any additional locks, such as a security hasp, you can use them to add extra security to the container.
  5. Test the lock: Before leaving the container, test the lock to ensure it is secure.

Note: It’s important to make sure that the container is on a level surface and properly anchored or weighted down to prevent it from shifting or tipping over in high winds or other weather events. Additionally, it’s a good idea to periodically check the container and its lock to ensure that it is secure and functioning properly.
